My Faith.

"He inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none" 2 Nephi 26:33

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  We believe that the true Gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored on the earth today.  We understand that this restoration came through the Prophet Joseph Smith and because of this, the fullness of the Gospel has been delivered again, including a fullness of the priesthood keys.  Perhaps explaining our beliefs is best done through the 13 Articles of Faith:

1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.

3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

My favorite and most cherished parts of our doctrine are:

Jesus Christ
Our Savior, Jesus Christ is our centralized focus.  We believe in Him.  We know that He was sent to earth, and that He suffered intense agony to provide us with the Atonement, by which we can be forgiven of our sins.  A debt we can never fulfill.  We believe that He was slain on the cross and that He willingly laid down His life for each of us, because His love for us was all encompassing.  We believe that on the third day after His death, He rose again.  We know that He lives, and we rejoice in His Resurrection, knowing that through it we can all escape the bands of death, and that we, too, will be resurrected with our physical bodies again one day.

Plan of Salvation
We believe in the Plan of Salvation.  We believe that prior to coming to earth we lived with our Heavenly Father and that we were a delight to Him.  We believe that we were sent to earth to be tried and tested, that we may be prove worthy to receive the blessings of exaltation and eternal life.  We believe that life continues on after this earthly dispensation.  That we will return home to our Father in Heaven, who will be awaiting us with outstretched arms, overjoyed to have us home again.

Family
Our faith is centered around the family.  We believe that the family organization is central to Heavenly Father's plan.  We believe that the family is an eternal based structure.  It existed prior to earth, and will exist hereafter.  We believe that through the blessings of temple marriage we can be sealed together as a family, to be with one another into eternity.

Scriptures
We believe in the Word of God, and we understand that it comes through the sacred works of the scriptures.  We believe that the Bible is the word of God.  We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God, and believe that the fullness of the Gospel exists within the two.  We are encouraged to study, ponder, and pray upon these words.  We have been promised that as we do so we will be strengthened and will have the ability to endure all that is presented to us in this mortal life.

Prophets and Apostles
We believe that like Prophets of Old, that there is a living Prophet on the earth today, one who is called by our Heavenly Father.  We believe Thomas S. Monson to be the Prophet of the Church.  We are blessed with Apostles, who also stand as prophets, seers, and revelators.  We believe that these special witnesses of Christ provide further guidance and direction sent from our Heavenly Father.  We seek to follow after them in all things.
